Protein Extraction, Precipitation, and Recovery from Chlorella sorokiniana Using Mechanochemical Methods

Protein extraction, precipitation, and recovery methods were evaluated by this study using a green alga—Chlorella sorokiniana. A mechanochemical cell disruption process was applied to facilitate protein extraction from microalgal biomass. Optimization of the resulted in milling conditions that achieved 52.7 ± 6.45%. The consequent acid precipitation method optimized recover 98.7% proteins slurry. measured content isolate 41.4% w/w. These results indicate is successful at recovering extracted algal slurry; however, removal non-protein solids during centrifugation pH adjustment not complete. energy balance analysis elucidated demand operation, 0.83 MJ/kg dry biomass, much lower than previous studies high-pressure homogenization membrane filtration. This concludes an effective, low-energy processing method, which could be used biorefineries prepare for value-added chemical production as well make carbohydrates lipids residual biomass more accessible biofuel production.
